Gnuboy

Gnuboy emulates the Color GameBoy handheld console, with interfaces for X11 and Linux fbcon and svgalib, with other ports planned in the future. It is 99 percent compatible Compatibility with the ROMs tested, and it supports all major hardware features except SGB extensions.

With the optional optimized i386 assembly code, gnuboy can run at the full 60 FPS even on Pentium/75s and below. It does not need any special libraries to compile, and is known to build on many *nix variants.
