GNU Forum

The Forum project will provide a platform which will run webservices that allow simultaneous editing of data by multiple users by integrating various existing communications technologies (ie, IRC, IM, FTP, HTTP, BBS, USENET). It also provides 'plazas,' virtual platforms that contain data and apps relevant to a subject, where people can meet and work together on that subject.

Various basic webservices will be built in/supplied with the program, including a documentation browser (for HTML and Texinfo), a download server, a message board and the plaza server. A chat system is integrated into the Forum server and automatically used in every app.

Forum has a C#-based server and multiple possible clients. The project will develop a GTK/C as well as a GTK/C# client. The webservice apps will run outside the server and connect to the server using standard webservice communication protocols. Also plugins may be made that are linked to from the server.

The package is currently in a planning/alpha stage. As of Jan 18, 2005, it has no maintainer. If you would be interested in maintaining this package, please write to
