Apache is a powerful, flexible, web server. It is highly configurable and customizable, provides full source code and comes with an unrestrictive license, runs on a variety of operating systems, is actively being developed, encourages user feedback, and implements frequently requested features including virtual hosts, unlimited flexible URL rewriting and aliasing, customized responses to errors and problems, content negotiation, and multiple DirectoryIndex directives.
