|Full description='Thunderbird' is a total redesign of the Mozilla mail component to produce a cross-platform, stand-alone mail application using the XUL user interface language. By focusing on stand alone mail, the developers believe they can make dents in the overall footprint and performance of the mail client by removing unneeded components. Also, the UI becomes much cleaner as a stand alone application (as opposed to part of the Mozilla suite). Its features include the ability to customize toolbars, a new look and feel with many downloadable themes to alter the appearance of the client, the ability to add UI extensions, an adressing sidebar, and footprint and performance improvements.

Icedove is an multiplatform mail client based on Mozilla Thunderbird.

It supports different mail accounts (POP, IMAP, Gmail), has an integrated learning Spam filter, and offers easy organization of mails with tagging and virtual folders. Also, more features can be added by installing extensions. The goal of Icedove is to produce a cross platform standalone mail application using the XUL user interface language.
