|Short description=High-level language for numerical computations.
|Full description=GNU Octave is a high-level language, primarily intended for numerical computations. It provides a convenient command line interface for solving linear and nonlinear problems numerically, and for performing other numerical experiments. It may also be used as a batch-oriented language. Octave has extensive tools for solving common numerical linear algebra problems, finding the roots of nonlinear equations, functions written in Octave's own language, or by using dynamically loaded modules written in C, C++, Fortran, or other languages.

GNU Octave

https://www.gnu.org/software/octave/
High-level language for numerical computations.

Octave is a high-level interpreted language that is specialized for numerical computations. It can be used for both linear and non-linear applications and it provides great support for visualizing results. Work may be performed both at the interactive command-line as well as via script files.

N.B. The Octave language is quite similar to that of proprietary Matlab so that most programs are easily portable. There is support for editing both in Emacs.
