Review:Element-desktop-REV-ID-1
Thank you for helping to improve the Free Software Directory!
This page has not completed review yet.
This submission will now wait until an administrator reviews it and chooses whether to add it to the directory. If you would like to become an admin, then visit the directory mailing list and introduce yourself.
Admins, this may be a request for a new entry. First run some searches for the page. Admins may create the page after making sure that it doesn't already exist under a similar name. (You may also want to edit the part of the URL after "/Entry/", then load that address, to make sure it is concise and doesn't contain strange characters or unwanted spaces.)
Admins, when you are done incorporating any needed changes from this page into a main entry, please edit this page and change the following text from: |Finished review=No
to: |Finished review=yes
. This helps keep submissions organized. (Note that doing this isn't what adds the entry to the directory.)

Dependency and freedom issues
For all cases, there is a thread in directory-discuss on Chromium, Electron, QtWebEngine and related issues, its also a good idea to see the talk page about Chromium.
riot-desktop
The GNU/Linux client currently depends on non-free software called Electron. See:
Further more, the notes on the "web" version apply.
riot-android
Has "conditional" freedom status when built. Only builds for F-Droid are free/libre, others aren't. This "conditional freedom" is programmed in the source files and is activated automatically by default, so it seems that the Riot proprietors only want to "reach out for more people" rather than provide free/libre software for everyone. See this discussion on libreplanet-br mailing list (in Brazilian Portuguese). To summarize: so far the affected files found are vector/build.gradle
, vector/src/app/java/im/vector/gcm/GCMHelper.java
and vector/src/app/java/im/vector/ga/Analytics.java
.
riot-web
Requires non-free software, or the website visitors aren't informed on which license covers the software and where to get the complete corresponding source files. See this discussion on libreplanet-br mailing list (in Brazilian Portuguese).
When reviewed separately from riot-desktop, riot-web was found to be free software. https://directory.fsf.org/wiki/Riot-web
