[didn't seem right to make a special entry for "Test Mailman". I think people who can usefully help with development can find the main page and resources ...]

Thank you for helping to improve the Free Software Directory!

Please insert the following code in the Entry2 template for this page after the {{Entry2 text:

|Finished review=No

This submission will now wait until an administrator reviews it and chooses whether to add it to the directory. If you would like to become an admin, then visit the directory mailing list and introduce yourself.

Admins, either this page has been processed already, or someone made a request to update an existing page. See what's different. (Admins may also edit that page.)

Admins, when you are done incorporating any needed changes from this page into a main entry, please edit this page and change the following text from: |Finished review=No to: |Finished review=yes. This helps keep submissions organized. (Note that doing this isn't what adds the entry to the directory.)

Name Mailman
Short description Helps manage email discussion lists by giving each mailing list a web page.
Full description Helps manage email discussion lists by giving each mailing list a web page, and allowing users to subscribe, unsubscribe, etc. over the Web. The list manager can adminster a full list entirely from the Web.

The program also includes most things that people want to do with the Web: archiving, mail-to-news gateways, integrated bounce handling, spam prevention, email based admin commands, direct STMP delivery, and support for virtual domains. The program runs on most Unix-like systems and is compatible with most Web servers and browsers and most SMTP servers

Documentation note The GNU Mailing List Manager, which manages email discussion lists much like Majordomo and Smartmail. Unlike most similar products, Mailman gives each mailing list a web page, and allows users to subscribe, unsubscribe, etc. over the web. Even the list manager can administer his or her list entirely from the web.

Mailman also integrates most things people want to do with mailing lists, including archiving, mail <-> news gateways, and so on. It has all of the features you expect from such a product, plus integrated support for the web (including web based archiving), automated bounce handling and integrated spam prevention.

This page is for people looking to help develop GNU Mailman. The download link represents just the current (unreleased) development version of Mailman 3. If you are looking to download other versions of Mailman, or are looking for documentation on how to install, set up, or use Mailman, please visit the main site: http://www.list.org or the wiki: http://wiki.list.org
