- This is a selection of the more common free software applications available for the Apple macOS platform, and is nothing like a comprehensive list. You may want to check the Runs-on/OS_X category for more software.
- Included in the operating system.
- Why not recommend Mozilla branded software like Firefox, SeaMonkey, and Thunderbird? As explained in our Free Software Definition, all four freedoms must be available on both a commercial and non-commercial basis. Mozilla's trademark policy serves to limit Freedom 2 to gratis distribution only, making the software nonfree. Debian has permission to redistribute modified copies of these software with the original branding, but that is an exception for Debian, and anyway it is a different issue.
GNU IceCat (Mozilla Firefox ESR fork) discontinued official macOS support after version 38.8.0.
